PeaceTech Alliance Wins Austria’s eAward 2025 for Sustainability

The PeaceTech Alliance has been honoured with the eAward 2025 in the category “Sustainability”, recognising Austria’s commitment to shaping technology responsibly in the service of peace. The award was presented in Vienna and accepted on behalf of the Alliance by the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and the Austrian Centre for Peace (ACP). It was wonderful to share the evening with Helmut Leopold, Tobias Lang, Michael Mürling, Verena Serini, and Wolfgang Grabuschnig.

What is the eAward?

The eAward, organised annually by Report Verlag, is one of Austria’s most respected prizes for digital innovation. It recognises projects that deliver meaningful, lasting impact for society across categories like business, health, education, the public sector — and sustainability.

A Community Across Austria

The PeaceTech Alliance is powered by a diverse community across Austria — leading research institutes and universities, civic-tech organisations, and peacebuilders on the ground. What unites this network is a simple belief: technology matters, but peacebuilders matter more.

For PeaceTech to truly work, tools must be designed with and for the people who know conflict best — those with lived experience in peacebuilding, mediation, and prevention. Our commitment is to keep their voices at the centre so every innovation is human-centred, ethical, and grounded in real-world needs. In short: PeaceTech must always be peacebuilders first, technology second.

Voices from the Alliance

Helmut Leopold, Head of the Center for Digital Safety & Security at AIT and Chairman of Gaia-X Hub Austria:
“Disruptive changes in digital technology demand a new alliance between technical experts, social scientists, public authorities and civil society. Only by working together can we develop digital solutions that serve our goals and challenges, rather than leaving us powerless in the face of technology.”

Tobias Lang, Director of the Austrian Centre for Peace:
“Peace in all its dimensions is the heart of ACP. With the PeaceTech Alliance we ensure that technology grows out of and for peace – from peacebuilders, for peacebuilders.”

Nathan Coyle, Co-Founder and Project Lead:
“The Alliance is still young, and it is a great honour to already be recognised by the innovation community. This award belongs to our entire network of partners and supporters, and we accept it proudly in their name.”

Thank You

We have a long road ahead, but this recognition shows we’re on the right track — together. Thank you to all colleagues, partners, and friends helping to shape technology responsibly for peace.

PeaceTech – made in Austria, powered by the community.
